Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background as an artist?

My name is Paige Jung and I'm a Chinese-Canadian self-taught illustrator and muralist based in "Vancouver", BC. I love using bold colours to bring concepts to life, and often explore themes of community, food, empowerment, and experiences of the Asian diaspora. My hope is for my work to become a vehicle to tell important stories, celebrate community care, and provide a connection point for those that sometimes feel in-between.

How did you come up with the concept for the cat design for this collaboration?

When I was thinking about this design for VOKRA, I wanted to depict a cat at peace, as I was inspired by VOKRA's mission to make sure cats have safe, loving homes. I thought the can of sardines was a humorous touch, and the vase and flowers added an element that I incorporate into a lot of my work.

NOW FOR A TOUGH QUESTION: ARE YOU A CAT PERSON?

I haven't always been a cat person, but in the last few years, I've befriended a lot of neighbourhood cats and have grown to love them!

In what ways do you think art can make a positive impact on organizations like VOKRA and the community?

A look into Paige’s studio and workspace

I think art has the incredible ability to unite a community, and amplify important needs and stories! While every artist has a different style, their perspective of the cause helps people to resonate with the cause in different ways.

What message or feelings do you hope people will take away when they see and wear the T-shirts featuring your design?

I hope that when people see this design, they will feel a sense of calmness and joy, and pride in being a cat person!
