At Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA), powerful communications help connect homeless cats with loving families, inspire supporters to give, and engage volunteers who make our work possible. We're looking for an experienced communications professional who wants to use their skills to make a meaningful difference.

As our Volunteer Communications Team Lead, you'll help shape VOKRA's voice across our website, social media, fundraising campaigns, and public communications. You'll work alongside a passionate team of staff and volunteers to develop communications that inspire action and support one of Canada's largest cat rescue organizations.

Communications Team Lead

We're seeking a talented and creative individual to join our team of enthusiastic and compassionate staff and volunteers as our Volunteer Communications Team Lead.

This is a work-from-home volunteer role with flexible hours, requiring occasional virtual and in-person meetings.

Who We Are

For over 20 years, Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) has been living our mission to end cat overpopulation and homelessness, and you can be part of that.

At VOKRA, we rescue, heal, then place cats—first in our network of foster homes, then in carefully matched, loving forever homes. We are a passionate, volunteer-driven charity with extensive cat care experience. We believe that no-kill is the only responsible approach to rescue, that Trap-Neuter-Return works, and that cats are AWESOME!

Each year, we rescue more than 1,400 kittens and cats throughout the Lower Mainland.

As VOKRA's Communications Team Lead, you are a passionate communicator who wants to bring your professional communications experience to an organization making a real difference.

You are a collaborative problem-solver who can think big without losing sight of the details and contribute creative, out-of-the-box ideas. You have a proven ability to manage multiple priorities while developing proactive, effective communications that promote VOKRA, support our team, and reflect the organization's values.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute integrated communications strategies and plans that tell the story of VOKRA while supporting adoptions, fundraising, and volunteer engagement.

  • Manage the tactical delivery of communications activities, including media relations, digital marketing, social media, website content, and event support.

  • Write compelling content for our website, email campaigns, newsletters, blog, social media, and other communications that share success stories and demonstrate the impact of VOKRA's work.

  • Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and tone across all communications materials.

  • Manage website administration, including updating website content and supporting those who manage our online store.

  • Work proactively and collaboratively with the fundraising and marketing teams to develop fundraising messaging and marketing collateral.

Skills & Experience

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Professional communications experience.

  • An understanding of digital communications and social media platforms, trends, and best practices.

  • Knowledge of or experience with website maintenance and development.

  • Experience with media relations (considered an asset).

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience developing communications campaigns and creating engaging content for websites and social media.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster a positive, open, and collaborative team environment.

  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also thriving as part of a team.

  • A genuine interest in VOKRA's mission and a willingness to learn more about animal rescue.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • A resourceful, detail-oriented, self-starting approach.
